I took my dad portland dumpster diving not too long ago. He was nervous at first, but then he became, in his words, disgusted by the waste and got way into digging through trash bags of bagels and boxes of oranges.

He's working on looking for some good dumpsters in my hometown.

Hi all!

I'm a newbie for dumpster diving and I want to find other people that want to do dumpster diving with me. I'm 26, female, live in inner SE Portland. Also, is there anyone knows any good place to dumpster dive around inner SE?
Thanks for your help!

luminais: FREE FOOD.

heyyyy. monday food not bombs is gonna kick off next week! cinco de mayo!

if ya don't already know, food not bombs is a kinda awkward name for a really cool thing: a world wide decentralized movement to feed people using food that would otherwise be thrown away. we get our food from donations and dumpsters and turn it into cool culinary creations. fruit salad and tofu scramble and stuff.

we're non-hierarchal and everyone's welcome to help out! if you bring food, bring an ingredients list, please. non-vegan foods are okay.

we're serving at 5:30 at the peninsula park rose garden, located at n. albina and ainsworth!

luminais: produce up the wazoo on north albina.

cherry sprout produce market (N. Albina/Sumner) throws away more veggies than i can carry! potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, tonsssssss of greens, avocados, etc. this is a frequent occurrence.

the goods are behind a locked gate, but it's not too hard to climb if you're nimble and/or moderately tall. definitely bring a flashlight.

happy hunting. <3

dottedcircles: Places to camp/sleep in vehicle close to town?

Hey there Portland,

I'm going to be moving in to my vehicle/a tent very soon and I'm looking for places in the area that I can sleep and not have worries about who is going to come along and bother me.

I have heard of lots of places like this around here but I have never actually seen them... can someone point me in the right direction?

(seriously cross posted)

dottedcircles: Hello

Hey all.

So I went on my first food diving trip this evening. Me and my boyfriend packed up the car with bags and drove around east Portland looking for Markets.  I have never gone in the rain, but I like it a lot better. The bins are colder.. I grew up in California where they were always hot and smelly... no fun for food finds...

Portland is different tho...

omg_kittens: HEAPS-O-BREAD - Killingsworth and 6th

HEY. A little birdie told me that there's a bread dump (mmmm, good choice of words, eh?) at Killingsworth and 6th by a laundromat. Boxes and boxes, multiple times per week, and at random times of the day, apparently.

Enjoy. =]

Also, the same little birdie suggested I make this community 'friends only' for security reasons. Thoughts?
